workshop on Jolly phonics was conducted by Ms. Ruchi Taneja and was attended by all the kindergarten teachers of both campuses with two English teachers from the primary section. The workshop spelled out the importance of Jolly phonics upon the use of correct phonics, blending and segmentation of letters the resource person emphasized that use of facial expression and hand movements are important part of learning phonics. She stated the Jolly phonics is a fun and child centred approach to teach through multi century ways using stories and actions she helped the teachers in learning the letter sounds, learning letter formation blending, identifying sounds in words spellings the tricky words,decoding of the words learnt. The teachers were trained with tricky words which have irregular spellings and children learn these separately.
The teachers were made to learn the short and long vowel sounds. The letter sounds were reinforced a number of times to make them well versed with the correct pronunciation of each letter sound.This workshop enabled the teacher to learn the techniques of teaching children to read and write as early as possible and with ease.
